Sentence for the Day

Clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, and be thankful.

Colossians 3:14–15

Collect

God of community,

whose call is more insistent than ties of family or blood:

may we so respect and love those whose lives are linked with ours

that we fail not in loyalty to you,

but make choices according to your will;

through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Amen.

Readings: 1 Samuel 2:18-20, 26; Psalm 148; Colossians 3:12-17; Luke 2:41-52

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh language region, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today

 Intercessions:  prepared by Jan Armstrong

Heavenly Father, you loved the world so much that you sent your only Son to live and die for us and show us how to live for you as your children and heirs. As we look back over 2024 and look forward into 2025 may we give you praise and thanks. Help us to be mindful that all we have is a gift from you. Guide us to love and care for the world around us, all people, animal and plant life and the whole natural world.

Heavenly Father, may your name be glorified in all the Earth.

Holy God, as you sent the spirit of your Son into our hearts, may we daily seek to do your will. We pray for the world-wide Anglican Communion especially in areas of our world still in conflict. We pray for Archbishop Jeremy, Regional Bishop John, Reverend Helen and her family and all who serve the wider community in your name.

Holy God, may your name be glorified in all the Earth.

Loving God, who hears and answers our prayers, help us to listen to the voices of those in need. May we always be practical Christians, as members of our local community, showing your love and care. Use each of us to spread your love and acceptance of everyone.

Loving God. may your name be glorified in all the Earth.

Faithful God, we thank you for all those who lived their lives reflecting your love and who are now dwelling with you for eternity. We especially remember those whose year’s mind occurs at this time.  Generous God, you know our hearts and our hurts. We pray especially for those who have asked for our prayers whom we name aloud or in the silence of our hearts……….Bless them all.

Faithful God, may your name be glorified in all the Earth.

May the Lord God bless us and keep us. May his face shine upon us and be gracious to us. May he give us his peace.  Amen

Pew Reflection

Samuel was clothed in the linen ephod of service in the temple. And the epistle speaks of being clothed in compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience and above all in love. Like Samuel we too serve God through our lives, our worship, and above all through doing everything in the name of the Lord Jesus.

• We pray that we may be filled with love, binding together all else, as we serve God and others.

• Give thanks for the work of and witness of La Iglesia Filipina Independiente, the Philippine Independent Church
