Sentence for the Day

Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.

Isaiah 60:1

Collect

Eternal God,

who by a star led Magi to the worship of your Son:

guide the nations of the earth by your light,

that the whole world may see your glory;

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

Amen.

Readings: Isaiah 60:1-6; Psalm 72:1-7, 10-14; Ephesians 3:1-12; Matthew 2:1-12

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh language region, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today

Intercessions:  prepared by John Noble

As we look forward to 2025 we see wars, civil conflicts, protests and civil unrests wherever we look, reflecting so much hatred around the world which shows how much the Christian message of love and forgiveness is needed. We pray for all those in authority and positions of power to give first concern to the people they rule rather than their own priorities.

Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer.

We give thanks for God’s creation in which we live, and all the natural beauties with which we are surrounded. Help us to preserve, and use wisely, all these gifts for those who will come after us.

Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer

We pray for the world-wide Anglican Communion of which we are members and for all its leaders, as they work with governments facing increased pressure from secular interests which seek to diminish the benefits which religious organisations contribute and the benefits they receive for the works they do. We pray for our archbishop Jeremy, our bishop John and our priest Helen and for the many people who carry out volunteer work for Christian groups.

Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer

We thank God for our health and strength and we pray for all those who work for the relief of pain and suffering in hospitals, clinics and other medical treatment places. We pray for those who care in their own homes for the elderly, the disabled and those with mental difficulties. Particularly today we pray for.....

Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer

We pray for our local communities, all those who work to provide us with what we take for granted, in the emergency services, Scenic Rim services, in schools shops and offices

Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer

We give thanks for the lives of those whom we have known and have been influential in our lives, remembering...

Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers, Grant that what we have asked in faith, we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Pew Reflection

The Epiphany of our Lord is the showing forth or the revealing of God to all people. The mysterious kings and camels from the east are a sign of this; not from among the “chosen people” but now they too are caught up in the vision and worship of what has happened in Bethlehem.

We too can see the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God, and now opened to all people.

• We pray that we can know that God’s life and saving message is for all people, regardless of their origin or their background.

• Give thanks for the work and witness of the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui, the Anglican Church in Hong Kong.
