Sentence for the Day
Jesus revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him.
John 2:11
Collect
Bountiful God,
whose Son revealed his glory at Cana of Galilee:
help us to believe and obey,
so that, as our Saviour promised,
we may be filled with the wine of new life
and show forth his joy and love;
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.
Readings: Isaiah 62:1-5; Psalm 36:5-10; 1 Corinthians 12:1-11; John 2:1-11
We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh language region, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today
Intercessions: prepared by Peta Tierney
Heavenly Father, we praise you and give you thanks for the marvellous works of your hands, the Earth, and the creatures and plants who live alongside us. Help us to be good stewards of your gifts to us. We pray for those caught up in conflicts and war, and for victims of violence everywhere. Touch the hearts of those who are driven by power, brutality and greed, who are blind to the suffering of others.
Lord, in your mercy, continue your loving-kindness to those who know you,
and your favour to those who are true of heart.
Heavenly Father, your faithful servants rejoice that you came to live amongst us and to establish your church. Bless the worldwide Anglican Communion especially at this time of change, and those in our diocese who do your work. Bless Archbishop Jeremy, Bishop John and Reverend Helen and all in our parish who contribute their time and talents to grow your church. Guide us in growing our faith and in inviting others to share in your grace.
Lord, in your mercy, continue your loving-kindness to those who know you,
and your favour to those who are true of heart.
Heavenly Father, you lived in a family and a community. Bless our families and communities. We pray for those in need, for those who are rudderless who need your love, that they may feel you guiding them. We pray for those who are ill or in pain. We pray for those who are dying. We pray especially for….and for any others known to us, whom we name aloud or in the silence of our hearts.
Lord, in your mercy, continue your loving-kindness to those who know you,
and your favour to those who are true of heart.
Heavenly Father, you lived and died amongst us. You know the struggles of living and of dying. Comfort those who are dying, and those who mourn. We remember with joy those who lived their lives for you, and especially those whose year’s mind occurs at this time.
Lord, in your mercy, continue your loving-kindness to those who know you,
and your favour to those who are true of heart.
Grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Pew Reflection
The season of Epiphany begins with the celebration of the gifts of the magi, continues with God’s gift of grace through Jesus’ baptism and continues this week with God’s vocational gifts bestowed on each of us for the sake of the community and our personal fulfillment. Isaiah speaks of the gift of a new name. God tells those who have been exiled that they will be called by a new name. New possibilities will emerge for them and new vocations will emerge. Those previously abandoned will be known as God’s beloved. Those who have felt divine absence will now experience God’s joy. New possibilities will come because of the new name, and with those possibilities new responsibilities will emerge. And this prompts us to consider – what are my responsibilities as I claim the name of Jesus’ companions.
