Collect
Bounteous God,
we give thanks for this ancient and beautiful land,
a land of despair and hope,
a land of wealth and abundant harvests,
a land of fire, drought and flood.
We pray that your Spirit may continue to move in this land
and bring forgiveness, reconciliation,
and an end to all injustice;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Intercessions: prepared by Jan Armstrong
Father God, as we acknowledge our role in your church as part of the body of Christ, may we listen prayerfully to your voice through your word directing us to what you, our loving and all powerful God would have us to be. Help us to commit ourselves to love you completely and to daily show your love to others.
Heavenly Father, guide us and let us live and love according to your will.
Holy God, who created our Earth and entire universe, we thank you for the greening of our land through recent rains. Help us to care for your world, to conserve resources and work as a worldwide community to care for and respect all life.
Heavenly Father, guide us and let us live and love according to your will.
Almighty God, we pray for all those in positions of authority. May the leaders of all nations look to fulfill your purpose. Guide all those in leadership in your church. We pray for Archbishop Jeremy, Bishop John and Reverend Helen. May all those in leadership in our local parish, as part of the worldwide Anglican Community reflect your love and sacrifice.
Heavenly Father, guide us and let us live and love according to your will.
Loving God, we thank you for all who care for the sick or elderly, as they minister to those in their care. We pray for healing for those known personally to us who we name aloud or in the silence of our hearts……………………….
Heavenly Father, guide us and let us live and love according to your will.
Eternal God, help us to daily look to your word for guidance and comfort. We thank you for each of our loved ones who have gone before us. You have promised to love and comfort us in our time of grief. Help us to show your love to those who grieve. Especially we remember those whose Year’s Mind occurs at this time.
Heavenly Father, guide us and let us live and love according to your will.
Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers. Grant that what we have asked in faith, we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen

Pew Reflection
Our readings orient us toward God’s many and diverse revelations in our lives and in the world. Following God’s law – dynamic, intimate, communal – enables us to experience and share grace in our daily life. Most of us do not enjoy hearing about ‘rules’ or law, they seem limiting and stopx us from the way of joy and freedom. They imply judgement, penalty, and the need to hide who we really are in order to avoid punishment. But the Law of Moses was the source of celebration for those who heard Ezra’s words. After years of exile where they were unable to follow their culture or customs, the reading of the Law is met with tears of joy. The rediscovery of the books of Law redefined the people as God’s beloved children and renewed their sense of identity. While it is hard for us to get a sense of how the people felt, the reading invites us to consider what documents of faith shape our identities as Christians. While we do not feel ourselves ‘set apart’ like the people of Israel, we do enjoy the benefits of a privileged status; the boundary between church and culture, church and social values and expectations are often barely noticeable. Let us consider – does our faith as Christians serve as a type of ‘law’ that allows us to have a critical relationship to both culture and government. Can our faith define us on Christ’s terms, not on liberal, conservative, capitalist terms.
