We are a Christian faith community living in the way of Christ accepting and welcoming all in loving service, growing Christ’s future on Earth.

Sentence for the Day

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father ’s only son, full of grace and truth. John 1.14

 Collect
O God, glorious and faithful,
you reveal the beauty of your face to those who seek you with a sincere heart:
strengthen us in faith to embrace the mystery of the cross, and open our hearts to its transforming power, so that, clinging in love to your will for us, we may walk as followers
of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

Hope 25 prayer
God Most High,
whose eternal Word chose a dwelling among us,
that we might live in your presence:
grant us a spirit of wisdom
to know how rich is the glory you have given us,
and how great is the hope to which we are called in the Word made flesh;
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.

Readings: Genesis 45:3-11,15; Psalm 37:1-11,40-41; 1 Corinthians 15:35-50; Luke 6:27-38

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh language region, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today

Intercessions:  prepared by John Noble

We thank God for the wonderful world in which we live, for the skies above, the earth and seas beneath, and for all the natural life with which we are surrounded. Keep us ever mindful that we must preserve God’s creation and use its resources wisely so that  those who will come after us will have the same benefits as we have. Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer.

We pray for all those areas around the world where there is conflict and civil strife, particularly in the Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan and the Eastern Congo, and we pray for all those who are trying to bring a just peace in these places. We remember so many innocent victims of these conflicts, those who have lost their homes and loved ones and have been forced to find refuge in neighbouring countries. We pray for all the organisations bringing food, water, medical supplies and shelter to those who have none.

Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer.

We pray for our world-wide Anglican church and its leaders as they seek to spread the Christian message in increasingly secular conditions, particularly Jeremy our archbishop, John our bishop and Helen our priest. We pray for Christians in countries where they are in a small minority and have to be careful not to infringe strict rules on their services which are imposed by hostile governments. We remember all those working in voluntary organisations caring for those most in need, bringing friendship and help to the lonely, isolated and those having relationship or family problems.

Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer.

We pray for our local community and for all other communities around Australia. We come from many backgrounds and have different opinions and beliefs. We pray that everyone treats all others equally, with understanding and respect, and that conflicts in far-distant countries over which we have no influence are not used to disturb the peace and security to which we are all entitled.

Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer.

We thank God for our health and strength, and pray for all who work in places of healing and treatment, doctors, nurses and other health care workers. We pray for those who look after the handicapped, elderly and those who cannot look after themselves in their own homes. We pray for those who fear for their future health, and those awaiting results of medical tests upon which their future depends. Today we pray for.....Lord, in your mercy...Hear our prayer.

We give thanks for the lives of those whom we have known but are no longer with us, and those whose years mind occurs at the time.

Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayer...Grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Pew Reflection

After God has spoken to Moses, his face shined.  But this glory was too much for others to bear, so Moses covered his face.  He effectively put his light under a bushel basket, so that his fellow citizens could tolerate the light.  How often do we do a similar thing.  Do we keep our actions ‘small’ so our neighbours and others will not notice, envy or criticise us?  Jesus goes up the mountain and his face shines, he glows with divinity.  The Psalmist proclaims - in God’s light we see light, knowing that the light shines in every darkness and brings forth life in the darkness.  Transfiguration Sunday tells us that in order to face the crosses and crippling diseases of this world we must live the light of the mountaintop everywhere, seeing with a God’s eye view and touching with a God-filled energy.  Transfiguration Sunday says: ‘take off your sad rags’, ‘ditch the frown and the furrowed brow’, ‘fire the thought police’, and invite in imaginative ‘lovers, lunatics, and poets’ to give us vision of new selves and new heavens and earths.  God knows we need them if we are to be God’s partners in transfiguring ourselves and the world.
