Sentence for the Day
Worship the Lord your God, and serve only him.
Luke 4:8
Collect
O saving God,
who led your people through the wilderness and brought them to the promised land:
so guide us that,
following our Saviour,
we may walk through the wilderness of this world
and be brought to the glory of the world which is to come;
through your Son,
Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.
Hope 25 prayer
God Most High,
whose eternal Word chose a dwelling among us,
that we might live in your presence:
grant us a spirit of wisdom
to know how rich is the glory you have given us,
and how great is the hope to which we are called
in the Word made flesh;
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.
Amen.

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh language region, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today
Intercessions: prepared by Jan Armstrong
Heavenly Father, who hears our cries, at this Lenten time, as we prepare to celebrate the fulfillment of your promised sacrifice of your Son for our sin, awaken us anew to the depths of your love for all your creation. Help us to daily witness of our love for your created world. With hearts filled with love and thanksgiving may we hear the cries of those around us and show your love to all.
Heavenly Father, grant that each of us may truly and humbly serve you,
That your name may be glorified in all the Earth.
Almighty God, we pray for all those in positions of authority. May the leaders of all nations look to fulfill your purpose and your will. Guide those in leadership in your church, especially we pray for Archbishop Jeremy, regional Bishop John and our priest Reverend Helen. May all those in leadership positions in our local parish, as part of the worldwide Anglican Community reflect your love and sacrifice.
Almighty God, grant that each of us may truly and humbly serve you,
That your name may be glorified in all the Earth.
Loving God, we thank you for all who care for the sick and elderly, as they minister to those in their care. We pray for all those suffering from the effects of Cyclone Alfred. We pray for workers helping people escape from situations of violence of any kind. We especially pray for those on our hearts today, whom we name aloud or in the silence of our hearts.
Loving God, grant that each of us may truly and humbly serve you,
That your name may be glorified in all the Earth.
Eternal God, we thank you for each of our loved ones who have lived their lives according to your laws and have now gone before us. You have promised to love and comfort us in our time of grief. Help us to show your love to those who grieve. Especially we remember those whose Year’s Mind occurs at this time.
Eternal God, grant that each of us may truly and humbly serve you,
That your name may be glorified in all the Earth.
Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers. Grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Pew Reflection
Our readings today speak of divine deliverance and the challenges of life. God is on our side, and even though the odds may be against us, God will come through and make a way where there appears to be no way. Even though there are ‘no guarantees’ in life, God is faithful and responds to our cries for help. Life involves the interplay of call and response, and when we call on God, unexpected insights and energies may emerge. Faith in God opens us to new dimensions of reality, and new energies for personal and communal salvation. The external situation may not always change, but we can face that uncertainty trusting that God is with us.
Your only response to God may be a humble ‘thank you’, but that is enough. Our Deuteronomy reading gratefully celebrates God’s deliverance of the Hebrew people. Grace alone saved this wandering community taken into captivity. And against all odds, God brought them out of captivity and thanksgiving is the appropriate response. The first fruits were not given to win God’s favour, but in response to God’s blessings. Grace leads to gratitude, and gratitude delivers us from isolation and fear. Gratitude leads to generosity toward God the giver and to God’s creation. Having received God’s grace, we can move to personally share our bounty with others. So the challenge is – in our privilege, what graces are we called to share?
