We are a Christian faith community living in the way of Christ accepting and welcoming all in loving service, growing Christ’s future on Earth.
Our citizenship is in heaven, and it is from there that we are expecting a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philippians 3:20
Collect
God of our ancestors,
whose chosen servant
Abraham was given faith
to obey your call
and go out into the unknown:
endow your Church with such faith that we may
follow you with courage;
for the sake of
Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
Hope 25 prayer
God Most High,
whose eternal Word chose a dwelling among us,
that we might live in your presence:
grant us a spirit of wisdom
to know how rich is the glory you have given us,
and how great is the hope to which we are called
in the Word made flesh;
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.
Amen.
Readings: Genesis 15:1-12, 17-18; Psalm 27; Philippians 3:17- 4:1; Luke 13:31-35

MESSAGE FROM BISHOP JOHN
Bishop John rang during the week and assured me of his thoughts and prayers for all in the parish as we continue to battle power, water, and connection issues post cyclone. Rev’d Helen
Intercessions: prepared by Keith Slater
As the mother hen gathers her chicks around her, so God gathers us into the protection of love and presence.
We pray today for the world, praying for peace where there is deep conflict. We pray particularly for peace for the Ukraine and Russia. We pray for processes which recognise the integrity of each party to the negotiations.
Lord, in your mercy: Hear Our Prayer.
We pray for the Church world-wide that it might give leadership of integrity, compassion and harmonious relationships in the present tensions. We pray for Jeremy, our Archbishop, John, our Regional Bishop and Helen, our Parish Priest. We pray for your blessing upon them in their daily ministries.
Lord in your mercy: Hear Our Prayer.
Gracious God, we give thanks today for all who are involved in the clean-up following Cyclone Alfred - for all who have, and continue to give tirelessly of themselves at this time for the good of all.
Lord in your mercy: Hear Our Prayer.
Loving God, we bring before you all those who ask for prayer at this time, particularly …….. Be with them, O Lord, in their need.
Lord in your mercy: Hear Our Prayer.
We give thanks for all who have been witnesses of faith to us in the face of disaster and opposition. May we ourselves be strong witnesses to others.
Lord in your mercy: Hear Our Prayer.
Accept our prayers through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN

Pew Reflection
Today’s readings join fear and faith. We are often disappointed by the ‘breaking news’ of racial violence, political ‘point-scoring’, the breakdown of international relations. We may also become afraid of the possibilities toward which God calls us and the amazing grace that transforms our lives. Abram is fearful of dying without an heir. He fears that his line, and the memory of his life, will end with his death. We want to leave an heir, to carry on our legacy, achievements and blood line. Abram is reaching an impasse. No child to Sarai, he may have a child to a slave girl, but that is not good enough in his eyes, nor in those of his culture. In a moment of despair, God tells Abram to ‘look and count the stars’, to look beyond himself and his self-interest and survival to see the deeper realities of life. His origins are beyond his imagination and long after he is gone, God’s world will continue. God’s path is everlasting and infinite, and Abram’s life is part of this incredible journey. A child is coming, but Abram and Sarai are first asked to recognise the wonder of God’s universe within which this child will be born. Abram believes and God responds. Our trust in God opens up new possibilities and energies. A way will be made where we see no way. New life emerges amid death and hope amid failure. This is living faith born of facing the complexities of life and discovering within our limitations new possibilities that are born.
