Sentence for the Day

At the name of Jesus, every knee shall bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Philippians 2:10–11

Collect

Everlasting God,

in your tender love for the

human race you sent your Son

to take our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross:

in your mercy enable us to share in his obedience to your will and in the glorious victory of his resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God,

for ever and ever.

Amen.

Hope 25 prayer

God of Hope

you call on us to be your

witnesses in this uncertain world:

by your Sprit awaken in us a true vision of your kingdom a greater certainty of our salvation, and a deeper dedication to your service:

that through our words and actions the same Spirit may bring many who are lost to be found and for them to celebrate the hope that we can

only have in Jesus Christ,

in whose name we pray.

Amen.

Pew Reflection

Palm Sunday gives us the interplay of celebration and passion, as we enter the spiritual maelstrom on the horizon for both us and for Jesus.  During this coming week we will encounter adulation and abandonment, celebration and conflict, integrity and suffering.

Our gospel today presents Jesus’ ministry as cruciform in nature, lured to Jerusalem and the cross.  Rather than this being a ‘preordained’ outcome, the cross is a reflection of the providence of grace, Jesus’ integrity, shaped by his faithfulness to God’s vision, makes the cross a possibility.  His integrity led him to follow God’s vision by staying in Jerusalem.  He followed God’s vision through the valley of conflict and persecution, and his faithfulness to God’s vision of Shalom shapes our lives today.

NOTICES:

JERUSALEM TALK: THANK-YOU!

Thanks to all of those who helped or contributed to the success of the day and a big thanks to John for sharing his knowledge with us all. It was a great day.
