Sentence for the Day

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.

Acts 16:31

Collect

Almighty God,

whose blessed Son before his passion prayed for his disciples that they might be one,

as you and he are one:

grant that your Church,

being bound together in love

and obedience to you,

may be united in one body by the one Spirit, that the world may believe in him whom you have sent, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

Amen.

Hope 25 prayer

God of Hope

you call on us to be your

witnesses in this uncertain world:

by your Spirit awaken in us a true vision of your kingdom a greater certainty of our salvation, and a deeper dedication to your service:

that through our words and actions the same Spirit may bring many who are lost to be found and for them to celebrate the hope that we can

only have in Jesus Christ,

in whose name we pray.

Amen.

Readings: Acts 16:16-34; Psalm 97; Revelation 22:12-22; John 17:20-26

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh language region, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today

Intercessions: Prepared by John Noble

This is the day that the lord has made....Let us rejoice and be glad in it

In our prayers today, we first thank God for the wonderful world in which we live, for the heavens above and the earth beneath, and for all forms of life which share God’s creation with us. May we always work to preserve all the benefits which we have now for those who will come after us.

Lord, in your mercy.... Hear our prayer.

We pray for all who live in areas where there is conflict and civil strife, remembering particularly Ukraine, Gaza and Sudan, all those who have lost their homes, their loved ones and are forced to rely on others for all that they need, shelter, food, water and personal security. We pray for world leaders who are trying to bring peaceful solutions to the conflicts and for all who work to provide help to those suffering so much.

Lord, in your mercy.... Hear our prayer.

We read that Christianity is the most persecuted religion in the world, and we pray for all Christians living in places where there is active persecution, discrimination and fear of possible violence from people living nearby. May they be comforted by knowing God’s love and relying on God’s guidance through their daily lives.

Lord, in your mercy.... Hear our prayer.

We pray for church leaders throughout the world as they seek ways to spread the Gospel in an increasingly secular world, where material wealth is leading to spiritual poverty. We pray for our Archbishop Jeremy, our regional bishop John, our priest Helen and for all who work as volunteers in Christian organisations which provide help and relief to those most in need.

Lord, in your mercy.... Hear our prayer

We thank God for the peace and prosperity in which we live here and pray for all who are in need. For all who have short or long term physical or mental health problems and for those who care for them in hospitals, clinics or in their own homes, and today we pray for..... We pray for the homeless, the lonely, the bereaved, those separated from their families and those living in fear in their own homes.

Lord, in your mercy.... Hear our prayer

We pray for all who have been affected by the floods in NSW, who have lost their homes, possessions, businesses or their farm crops and livestock. And we pray for all who are working to provide help and encouragement to start their lives again.

Lord, in your mercy.... Hear our prayer

We give thanks for the lives of those whom we have known bur are no longer with us, and particularly we remember those whose years mind occurs at this time. Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers, Grant that what we have asked in faith, we may by your grace receive.

Pew Reflection

In its essence, Christian spirituality is adventurous, countercultural and surprising. God does not stand still and neither should our faith. We open ourselves to change as we remain faithful to God.  Mystical in nature, it opens us to deeper experiences of the Holy Spirit, from whom we receive our mission for life. God is in our lives, and we can experience God as our deepest reality and guide.  Christian spirituality will challenge our self-imposed limitation, and it will transcend any behavioural expectation in striving to be faithful to the ‘sacrament of the present moment’. When we welcome God into our ‘worldview’, we will have a larger perspective, and be inspired in hope and energising action. Authentic faith transcends barriers, goes beyond polarisation, and it expands the circle of concern to embrace enemies as well as friends. Authentic faith inspires songs and praises in troubled times.  Powers and principalities and their minions cannot defeat us when we have a song in our heart.

June Retiring Collection: Discipleship of the Good Shepherd East Africa

Over the next 3 months there are two major DGS training missions underway in Africa that need financial support to show that a well-developed DGS program achieves wonderful results. One in the south of Tanzania in a mountainous rural community and the other in Nairobi, in a huge slum. Both are for the first time doing training in Swahili language, the result of an enormous translation effort!
