Sentence for the Day
God’s love has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit
who has been given to us. Romans 5:5
Collect
O God,
who in smoke and fire
upon Mount Sinai
gave the law to Moses,
and who revealed the new covenant in the fire of the Spirit:
grant, we pray, that, kindled by that same Spirit which you poured forth upon your apostles,
we may fulfil with joy your commandment of love.
We ask this through Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.
Hope 25 prayer
God of Hope
you call on us to be your
witnesses in this uncertain world:
by your Spirit awaken in us a true vision of your kingdom a greater certainty of our salvation, and a deeper dedication to your service:
that through our words and actions the same Spirit may bring many who are lost to be found and for them to celebrate the hope that we can
only have in Jesus Christ,
in whose name we pray.
Amen.

Spirit of the living God, come: hear us and intercede for us.
We pray for, and give thanks, for this creation. We pray that the human race may be mindful of caring for this creation with which you enliven and sustain us. We pray for the decisions of governments, industries and businesses that they might be for the good of all of creation.
Holy Spirit come, and, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We pray for your Church that it be the expression of your love and goodness. We hold before you our leaders, Archbishop Jeremy, Bishop John and Helen, our priest. Fill them with your Spirit for the ministry they offer. We pray for all members of our Parish community, empowered by the Spirit, we might be willing sharers of Good News.
Holy Spirit come, and, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We pray for the communities in which we live and work and play. We pray for those who take leadership in community bodies - on Council, in schools and in community services. May they be empowered to carry out their roles.
Holy Spirit come, and, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We pray for the sick and suffering, those known to us, and today especially for …… Bless them with your Spirit that they may know your healing presence and loving compassion. We pray for those who care for them. Empower them with the gift of compassionate love.
Holy Spirit come, and, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We hold before you, O Lord, all those who have been witnesses of faith down through the ages - and to us. We pray for thankfulness in recognition of their gift.
Holy Spirit come, and, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers, Grant that what we have asked in faith, we may by your grace receive.

Pew Reflection
What are your expectations of Pentecost. Are you waiting for a wind to blow through the church, are you expecting tongues of fire to ‘drop’ from the sky or roof, are you waiting for someone to start speaking in tongues? The Day of Pentecost presents us with images which defy understanding, and, at many levels, are so ‘outside’ our expectations and experience that they become ‘unreal’ to us. But we still ‘yearn’ for God to address us in ‘sighs too deep for words’; for God to beckon us toward more than we can ask or imagine. The Day of Pentecost announces God’s mighty and transformative presence in the emerging Christian movement and in our lives. God’s Spirit can move quietly; but it can also be bold and awesome. Regardless of how we experience God’s Spirit, it breaks down barriers, welcomes outsiders, reconciles the separated, and energises our own spirits. God offers inspiration and salvation to everyone, and always in the way we can understand. The Spirt is global and universal, it is equally intimate and personal. The Spirit motivates us to action: Jesus’ Pentecostal followers head to the streets to share the good news. Peter’s speech reflects the reality that God can speak within and through any and all of us.

Over the next 3 months there are two major DGS training missions underway in Africa that need financial support to show that a well-developed DGS program achieves wonderful results. One in the south of Tanzania in a mountainous rural community and the other in Nairobi, in a huge slum. Both are for the first time doing training in Swahili language, the result of an enormous translation effort!
