We are a Christian faith community living in the way of Christ accepting and welcoming all in loving service, growing Christ’s future on Earth.

Sentence for the Day

Watch and be ready, for you do not know

on what day your Lord is coming. Matthew 24:42, 44

Collect

Kindle in our hearts, Father,

the same faith that impelled Abraham

to set out from his home

and to live as a pilgrim in a foreign land.

As we, like him, look for the city

that none but you can design and build,

keep us watchful for your Son’s coming,

that we may be found faithful stewards

of all that you have entrusted to us.

We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

Readings: Isaiah 1:1,10-20; Psalm 50:1-8, 23-24;

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh language region, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today.

Intercessions:  prepared by Jan Armstrong

Loving God who created the universe help us to be worthy stewards of your creation. Help us, Loving Father, to care for all aspects of our world, the air, water and land and all plant and animal life. Guide us to live sustainably for your glory today and forever.

Our Father in heaven, focus our lives on you we pray.

Loving God who sought to dwell among your people, guide us to be your hands and feet and heart of love on Earth as we seek to reflect your love to those we meet each day. We pray for the Worldwide Anglican Communion and our guides, Archbishop Jeremy, Regional Bishop John and Reverend Helen. Bless our congregation as we daily seek to live our lives to your glory.

Our Father in heaven, focus our lives on you we pray.

Loving God, who sees our motives for all we think and say and do, fill us with an appreciation for all we have each day. As our physical and spiritual needs are satisfied by you, may we seek to satisfy the physical and spiritual needs of those who do not know you as their Heavenly Father.

Our Father in heaven, focus our lives on you we pray.

Loving God, we thank you daily for how much you love and care for each one of us. In sending your son, our Lord Jesus Christ to die on the cross, you forgave all our sins, the largest debt ever. Help us to forgive with the same amazing love.

Our Father in heaven, focus our lives on you we pray.

Loving Father, we pray for healing for all who are suffering from illness or as the result of wars. We thank you for your servants who have gone before us to dwell in your house forever. We especially remember those whose years mind occurs at this time. We bring before you those close to us who we name aloud or in the silence of our hearts.

Our Father in heaven, focus our lives on you we pray.

Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers.

Grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Pew Reflection

For Isaiah, ethics matter and character matter, he indicates that nations can be wealthy and yet still spiritually bankrupt.  What about Australia, or even Tamborine or Canungra.   Does our community see ethics and character in us and what we do that reflects the God we worship, or are we just ‘fitting in’ with the ‘society norms’.  The author of the letter to the Hebrews proclaims the life-changing power of faith.  Faith sees the concrete world as the birthplace of possibility and imagines that God is presenting us with provocative images of the future, even if they appear unlikely to us now.  Jesus warns us to ‘be ready’.  We cannot know when we will be called to respond to God’s vision of salvation in life-changing ways.  Jesus invites us to ‘trust God’ and then ‘act sacrificially’ for the well-being of others.

Ask Around: Tell about a time when you felt especially grateful…

Little Lukies is a church-based program, run every Monday in term time, that introduces primary school aged children to God and the church. Children are given afternoon tea when they arrive from school, followed by a game, a ‘lesson’ in the church and an activity related to the story that is taught each week.  SLAngers is for high school children who meet fortnightly and are met with afternoon tea and then engage in ‘community focused’ activities and bible-based discussions
