Collect of the Day
God, our Creator,
we celebrate your vibrant presence
among us and our kin in creation
especially in the soil the fields and the land.
Help us to empathise with your
creatures who are suffering.
Lift our spirits to rejoice
with the land, the flowers of the field and all the
creatures of the countryside.
In the name of Christ, who
reconciles and renews all things in creation. Amen.
Liturgy: via PowerPoint + APBA Colour – Green
Readings:
Genesis 3:14-19;4:8-16; Psalm 139:7-12;Romans 5:12-17;Matthew 12:38-40
We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh language region, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today.
A note from Helen
‘Adam’ man, formed by God from ‘adama’ earth. We come from the red earth of Eden, and, as God tells Adam, we will return to the earth when we die. We these words spoken at funerals ‘earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust’. Land is important for all of us. Without land, there would be no agriculture, no animals, and nowhere for us to live. Many wars- global and local - have been triggered by ‘land’ issues, fighting over who ‘owns’ or ‘controls’ the land in dispute. But no one ‘owns’ land, it is given to us by God for our use and respect for, and care of the earth is one of the most important things we, as humans ‘earth people’, can do. As our scientists have been telling us for many years, our earth is at serious risk due to climate change, and unless we change our practices and start to take more care of our earth, it will not be here for those who will come after us.

Intercessions – prepared by Peta
Creator God, we thank you for the wonderful Earth on which we live, and it’s landscapes and creatures. We thank you for the beauty of our mountain and valley homes. We bring before you our concerns about our planet and its future. We pray for those in Hawaii and Canada recovering from bushfires, and other countries where climate change is tragically impacting. Help each of us to play our part in living sustainably and in ensuring all peoples are able to share equitably in the bounty of the earth.
Compassionate God, hear our prayers.
Living God, we try to live our lives as you commanded us, loving you and our neighbour as ourselves; but we are imperfect and often fail. Forgive us when we falter. Bless this church and all who minister and labour here in your name. Bless the work of our new office assistant, Marissa. Bless Helen, Bishop John and Bishop Administrator Cameron. We pray for our new archbishop, Jeremy.
Compassionate God, hear our prayers.
Loving God, we bring before you all who suffer, those who are seriously ill, frail or dying, those living in poverty or who are homeless.. all those who need our prayers. We pray especially for…. and for those known to us whom we name aloud or in the silence of our hearts…
Compassionate God, hear our prayers.
Eternal God, you knew each of us before we were born, and we are comforted to know you have prepared a place for us with you when our time on Earth comes to an end. Be with those who are dying and with those who are mourning. We remember with love all those who tried to follow you in their lives and have gone before us, and those whose Year’s Mind occurs this month.
We remember especially the Martyrs of New Guinea and Mary, the mother of Jesus.
(Prayer for Archbishop-Elect – Rev’d Helen)
Compassionate and merciful God,
hear our prayers, and grant that what we have asked for in faith, we may by your grace, receive.
Year’s Mind Anniversaries this month

September Retiring Collection: Little Lukies at St Luke’s, Canungra
Little Lukies is a church-based program run at St Luke’s for primary school aged children every Monday afternoon during the school term. It has been operating since 2019 (with only a few necessary breaks during covid). St Luke’s Guild and Jan Armstrong have resourced this important activity that introduces the children to God and the church. Numbers have risen to up to 20 children weekly. The children are given afternoon tea when they arrive from school. This is followed by a game, a ‘lesson’ in the church and an activity related to the story that is taught each week.
