‘The river of God is full of water’.

Psalm 65:9

Collect of the Day

God, our Creator,

whose glory fills our planet,

help us to discern your vibrant presence among us

and our kin in creation, especially in the rivers,

the streams and waterways of Earth.

Help us empathise with your creatures who are suffering.

Lift our spirits to rejoice with the vibrant world of the rivers.

 In the name of Christ,

who reconciles and restores all things in creation. Amen.

Liturgy:  via PowerPoint + APBA   Colour – Green

 Readings:

Genesis 8:20-22; 9:12-17; Psalm 104:27-33; Revelation 22:1-5; Matthew 28:1-10

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wanggeriburra people of the Yugambeh language region, the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of the land on which we gather, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people worshipping with us today.

A note from Helen

How often do you notice rainbows?  But do you know the significance of a rainbow, apart from it showing that the rain has ceased.  After the ‘great flood’, God made a covenant with Noah that never again would God send rain enough to destroy every living creature on earth.  The rainbow is our guarantee that God ‘has our back’, and the earth will endure and continue to give “seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night”.  So if God will forever protect the earth, why won’t we.  How many things in our lives do we need to ‘change’ or ‘stop doing’ in order for us to show that we too will ‘protect the earth’.

Intercessions inspired from the Stations of the Cross

We pray that we can meet with compassion our sister mother Earth who sustains all life with air, food, and water.

We adore You, O Christ, and we bless You: because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.

Creator of all things, to You all are beautiful and precious - help us to see creation as You do. Help us to lay aside our differences and embrace each other as sisters and brothers.

We adore You, O Christ, and we bless You: because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.

We pray for those forced to carry the burden of environmental disasters caused by our rampant development. We pray for those who risk their lives to embrace the call of social and climate justice.

We adore You, O Christ, and we bless You: because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.

We pray for our sisters and brothers hidden in the darkness of modern slavery, in factories and homes across the world, forced to work in inhumane conditions and deprived of their freedom.

We adore You, O Christ, and we bless You: because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.

We pray for the leadership of the church in the battle to preserve our planet, Earth. Give us wisdom to be instruments of Your peace and justice.

We adore You, O Christ, and we bless You: because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.

We pray that we may see the face of Jesus in the faces of all those suffering in any way, particularly ……………Help us to be a source of compassion and comfort. Amen.

We adore You, O Christ, and we bless You: because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.

God of life, many of our sisters and brothers risk and lose their lives working to protect this beautiful world You created. May their sacrifice be remembered and honoured by those they serve.

We adore You, O Christ, and we bless You: because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.

 (Prayer for Archbishop-Elect – Rev’d Helen)

Accept our prayers through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen..

September Retiring Collection:  Little Lukies at St Luke’s, Canungra

Little Lukies is a church-based program run at St Luke’s for primary school aged children every Monday afternoon during the school term. It has been operating since 2019 (with only a few necessary breaks during covid). St Luke’s Guild and Jan Armstrong have resourced this important activity that introduces the children to God and the church. Numbers have risen to up to 20 children weekly. The children are given afternoon tea when they arrive from school. This is followed by a game, a ‘lesson’ in the church and an activity related to the story that is taught each week.
